This was one of the first jobs I had the pleasure to work on at Weta, I spent months sculpting the Moa and prepping the sculpture for print.
I worked under the direction and guidance of Sculptor Daniel Cockersell and worked with other 3D artists (Ryan Serrano and James Doyle) to produce a digital model of the sculpt. The birds were then 3D printed in wax and cast in bronze. The workshop crew assembled the giant structure around a steel armature before hand-tooling and finishing the surface.
