JHill and I kicked off this epic project in late 2023. He wanted a 1:1 physical version of his FLEX arms, and I was stoked to be involved.

When I first took on the project, I was set up in a workshop in New Zealand, with connections in the film and manufacturing world. But after a last minute move, I found myself assembling three robot arms on a kitchen bench in Canada, meeting a whole new crew of creatives along the way.
I took J’s arm model, remodeled the large sections in CAD to give it extra polish, redesigned a few parts, and prepped everything for 3D manufacturing. Philip at Ember Prototypes then printed the parts on his Form printers and handled the plasma cutting for the metal. After I did a fit test, Charron Props stepped in for the final sanding and a beautiful paint job. I then took the final parts, glued it all together and shipped it to LA just in time for Lightbox Expo!
Special thanks to:
